Ballinasloe Community Arts Group are putting the finishing touches to their fifth annual River and Festival An tSuca Fiain which will take place from Monday the 10th of July to Sunday the 16th of July 2006. The main aim of the Ballinasloe Community Arts Group is to promote and develop the Arts in the town of Ballinasloe. The week of the Festival is an ideal opportunity to highlight the amount of talent and potential talent that exists in the town. The week long festival also includes a host of Art Exhibitions, on Monday 10th of July, Fia Nua Creagh Services will host their exhibition "Moment to Moment" in Ballinasloe Library. As the underlying theme of this years festival is Colour and Diversity we have the traditional art of Irish Music and Song provided by the Ballinasloe Branch of Comhaltas and the Ballinasloe Singing Circle mixed with the art of storytelling by Arizona Storyteller Liz Warren. On Tuesday in Crumbs and Cream we host an exhibition "Places and Faces" which will include contributions from a number of local artists, this is followed by a Poetry reading by Nuala Ni Chonchúir this will take place in Ballinasloe Library. On Wednesday local artist Joyce Little will host a solo exhibition "Nylons" in the Tonsu Art Gallery. One of the highlight of the week in terms of colour, diversity and participation will be the parade which will include characters such as the Rainbow Serpent who originates from sunnier climes. The Rainbow Serpent sleeps deep beneath the ground and he must be awoken by noisy chanting, dancing and singing. Once awoken from his slumber he will bring new life to the earth as the rainbow of colours burst forth. Just before the parade the Lucan Gospel Singers will perform on board the MV Enterprise which will be moored at the Marina - come and experience this uplifting and energetic show. The evening will be rounded off in a lively fashion in Gullanes Hotel with the 2FM Disco with DJ Ruth Scott. Internationally renowned Irish Rock Band "Aslan" will be the highlight of Friday as they perform in Gullanes Hotel, supported by well know local singer/musican Ronan Buggy Burke. Saturday is a day which will cater to the very young, and those young at heart with Story time for Children in the Library, Chalk Drawings in St Michael' Square, and live music with up and coming rock band "Jade" on board the MV Enterprise. Why not come and join us for our festival club in An Táin, a nice way to chill out. Once again the Floating Theatre Company will be at the Marina and will host a series of theatre workshops on Board the MV Enterprise for children ranging from the ages of 10 years to 12 years culminating in a performance of Fionn Mac Chuill and the Salmon of Knowledge by the children on board the MV Enterprise on Sunday the 16th of July.
