The festival celebrates the wealth of talent to emerge from the area. The inaugural festival is a homecoming for the many artists who were born & reared in the town & its environs & who now rank among the top artists performing internationally.
The town of Buncrana, in the Inishowen peninsula, Co. Donegal will host its first traditional arts festival from March 31st-April 2nd, 2006. Few towns in Ireland can compare with Buncrana in terms of the amount and quality of musical talent it has yielded over the years. To recognise this, Ar Ais Arís, Buncrana's Traditional Arts Festival has been created as a celebration of the wealth of talent to emerge from the area. The inaugural festival will be a homecoming of sorts for the many musicians, singers and dancers who were born and reared in the town and its environs, and who now rank among the top artists perfroming internationally. The festival programme will cram in over a dozen events (concerts, recitals, ceili, workshops, traditional masses, late night gigs, workshops, lectures) as well as a session trail with traditional music and song available in local pubs all through the weekend and featuring top musicians from all over Ireland, the UK and the USA
