Our festival is a family-orientated event, comprising of ten days of fun-filled entertainment that includes free music, dancing and circus acts. Children's events include Teddy Bears' Picnic, art, fishing, competitions and Teenage Gladiators.
Ballina is home to one of the most prestigious Irish Summer Festivals Ballina Street and International Arts Festival attracts in excess of 150,000 people from all around the world every year. The Festival prides itself on the variety of entertainment being offered to ensure that the multitudes visiting are guaranteed more than a week full of pleasure and enjoyment.
Some of the main events include National Heritage Day, International Evening, Mardi Gras Parade and spectacular fireworks display, Golf Classic, The Street Rag parade, It's a Knock Out, Teenage Gladiators, Reach for the Stars, Stunt Night, Fancy a Dance?, Racing, The Krazy Kart Challenge and the famous Teddy Bear's Picnic along with a full week of children's entertainment and workshops. The Festival guarantees that there will be something to please and delight everyone. Ballina is an ideal location for a family holiday this summer.
The tradition of our Festival stems back to the early 60's when it was known as the "Ballina Salmon Festival". The Ballina Festival was originally started in 1964, but in the mid 70's due to lack of funding the festival committee disbanded and the festival remained dormant until the early 90's. A revitalized committee that was committed to bringing diversity revived it and ;put a winning formula together, which proved vital for the survival of the Festival, as it is known today. The Festival has since gone from 'strength to strength' to become one of the most vibrant and diverse festivals in Ireland today.
