Down Royal Racecourse |
| |
The history of Down Royal goes back over 300 years to the reign of James II. Created by Royal Charter in 1685, The Down Royal Corporation of Horse Breeders was tasked with “Encouraging the Breed in the County of Down”. Undoubtedly the most famous horse to race at Down Royal was the “Byerly Turk” one of the three foundation stallions of the Stud Book. Down Royal Racecourse is the home of the Northern Ireland Festival of Racing.
