Listowel Racecourses |
| |
Racing commenced at Listowel in 1858. The races were held previously at Ballyeagh, near Ballybunion, but due to faction fighting they had to be moved and Listowel was chosen as the new venue. Due to the popularity of races, known originally as the North Kerry Hunt Steeplechase, the meeting was extended from the original one day event until it became a six day fixture in 1992.
Listowel Races is one of Ireland’s oldest and most successful racing festivals and is held in the last week of September. In addition there is a 3 day weekend race meeting in April.
