Roscommon Racecourses |
| |
Roscommon racecourse is steeped in National Hunt tradition. The first ever recorded race meeting took place in 1837 and was organised by the British military which then had a base in the town. Racing proper began in 1885 and has continued ever since, with the exception of a 12 year period from 1936 to 1948. Roscommon racecourse is now recognised as a true test of a horse's ability with Cheltenham Gold
